The Apache Junction Unified School District governing board voted 5–0 July 28 to adopt the 2026–27 student code of conduct.
During discussion, a board member asked for explicit language stating that assaults on staff would carry consequences. District legal counsel told the board that the current policy already contains a severity clause allowing the hearing officer to impose increased discipline for aggression against employees on school property, but recommended adding clearer wording to the handbook for parents and staff. "Our attorney reviewed that, procedure and did not find a need to strengthen the severity levels for aggression offenses within the current policy," the superintendent said.
Board members agreed to return the item to a work session or to add an addendum to next year's handbook so language is more visible to parents. The motion to approve the code of conduct passed unanimously.
