Commissioners approved a memorandum of understanding to provide short-term coverage in the chief deputy register of deeds position that will allow overlapping training with the current employee (referred to in discussion as Carmen). A commissioner said the MOU is “a short term measure” intended to preserve institutional knowledge while the county completes contract negotiations for the permanent position.
The MOU preserves existing vacation-time arrangements as agreed in the collective bargaining agreement while the position remains in-union during the transition; members discussed an August 17 start date in the packet and said the MOU and related start-date details had been included in recent meeting materials. The motion to approve the MOU was seconded and passed by voice vote at the meeting.
