The Veterans and Community Resource Center will host a Memorial Day barbecue and resource fair on Saturday, May 30, beginning at 10 a.m., the commission heard. Walter Escano said the ceremony will include an honor guard from Nellis Air Force Base and community partners such as the Maca Figueroa Foundation and Grand Canyon University will provide food and volunteer support. "This special event is open to everyone as we come together to commemorate and honor our fallen heroes," Escano said.
Escano told the commission there are currently 57 registered vendors providing services and resources for veterans and their families, and organizers are "expecting more than 400 attendees." The resource commission will have a booth and asked for volunteers to staff it; organizers also recommended attendees prepare for high temperatures forecast in the high eighties.
