The Chariton City Council on July 20, 2026 approved a rezoning request for property adjacent to 1200 North 7th Street, owned by Lucas County Health Center, changing the zoning from RS-84 Single Family Residence to BGH Heavy General Business to allow a renovation project. The Planning and Zoning Commission had recommended the change and the Council accepted that recommendation by roll call vote.
The motion passed with Council Members Stephen Fenton, Jarrett McGee and Gary Shutt voting in favor; Mayor Jayma Davis and Council Member Cameron Storm recorded abstentions. The minutes note the rezoning was to allow the Health Center’s renovation project; no ordinance number or effective date was recorded in the minutes and the City Attorney was directed to prepare an ordinance.
