Municipal court expands text/email alerts and clerk standing orders to reduce warrants

Stacy said the operational changes aim to reduce the number of warrants issued and improve customer service by reducing lobby wait times. "We have since created some text messaging notifications to inform defendants to remind them that they have a court date coming up..." she said. She acknowledged some residents called wondering whether the messages were scams and said staff will coordinate with Communications and IT to put clear notices on the city website and include QR codes on citations linking to official information. Councilmembers asked for follow-up data on the warrants trend, resident vs. nonresident breakdown, and whether extended hours or online resolution options could further improve compliance; Stacy said she would return with more data.
