The Midlothian City Council on Wednesday recognized off‑duty firefighter‑paramedic Jason Horn and his daughter, Emily, for a July 4 rescue at Alvarado Lake that officials said saved three children.
An agency official told the council that Horn jumped into the water after a smaller boat with six children and three adults capsized and “was able to extract all three of those children from out under the boat.” The official said Horn rendered CPR to two victims and that Emily “gave the dispatch very pertinent information that allowed resources to be deployed to the scene.”
Horn accepted a medal of bravery and a city challenge coin; the council also presented Emily with a Community Hero Award. Horn told the council he and his family appreciate the support: “Mainly, I just wanna say thank you to everybody…Thank you to my crew, to my leadership here with the department, to my family.”
Mayor Pro Tem Clark Wycliffe read a proclamation commending Horn for actions on July 4, 2026, and noted the city and the Alvarado community commend Horn’s response. The presentation included photos and additional tokens of appreciation at the dais.
