Commissioner DeGroot reported that at the recent National Association of Counties conference — where he serves as vice president for the Western Interstate Region — two topics dominated: efforts to reform the Endangered Species Act and questions about where data centers should be sited. He said these debates addressed impacts on timber, agriculture, power grids and water systems.
DeGroot told the board that counties have been advocating for ESA reform for decades and that momentum behind reform is growing. He also said Klamath County could be an option for data‑center siting and that the county will work with economic development partners to prepare for related infrastructure discussions.
