Commissioner Nichols highlights wildfire response, county fair, energy work and veterans push

Commissioner Nichols updated the Board on regional wildfire activity, thanking local fire districts and the Oregon State Fire Marshal for coordinated responses to incidents including the Loveless and Fisher fires and noting a Klamath County team is assisting the Brewer Fire in Central Oregon. "I want to thank all of our fire agencies for their quick action," he said, and he encouraged residents to be mindful of fire safety during extreme conditions.
Nichols also reminded residents the Klamath County Fair begins Thursday and thanked staff and volunteers. He said he has spent months engaging on energy policy and will attend a National Association of Counties (NACo) energy summit in Texas. He added he had been asked to join an Association of Oregon Counties working group focused on veterans and intends to push for improvements including expanded tax relief, veteran‑focused housing, better mental health services and streamlined occupational licensing so military experience translates into civilian credentials.
