Council approved a Tourism Development Authority request to install a memorial bench in honor of Nancy Nichols. Mayor Hyde described Nichols’s funeral attendance and community appreciation and asked that the minutes reflect the council’s thanks.
Public works staff said the proposed bench location is beside the dock where a worn wooden bench currently sits and that the replacement bench costs approximately $2,800. Staff said the Tourism Development Authority will cover the cost, so there is no expense to the town general fund. Installation would require an order lead time of approximately 8–9 weeks plus a few days for installation; staff proposed keeping the bench covered until a formal reveal with family and council.
A motion to approve the memorial bench request was made, seconded, and approved by voice vote. Council asked staff to note the bench request’s history and to include council appreciation for Nancy Nichols in the minutes.
