Board approves application for up to $100,000 state grant to fund digital outreach vehicle

The North Las Vegas Library District approved a motion authorizing application for a Nevada State Library and Archives grant of up to $100,000 with a required 10% in-kind local match to fund a branded outreach vehicle. Deputy Director Shelly Alexander told the board the vehicle will focus on technology and programming rather than circulating books.
Alexander said the outreach vehicle would include computers and STEM equipment for visits to recreation centers and an MOU partner (Nevada Hand) serving low-income housing, and noted the match would be provided through existing staff time and operations. When asked about the vehicle size, Alexander said it will be a passenger-size van and “it will not have books… it’s gonna be more for the digital access,” not a traditional bookmobile.
Trustee Acosta moved and Trustee Henry seconded the motion to approve application and authorization for the library director or designee to execute required contracts; the motion passed by voice vote.
