The North Las Vegas Library District presented a tentative FY2026–27 budget of approximately $5,250,000 at its May 26 meeting. Library Deputy Director Shelly Alexander told trustees the district’s “main source of income is property taxes” and that the current tax rate is 6.32 cents per $100 of assessed valuation.
Alexander said salaries and benefits remain the largest share of expenditures and that the district is operating at staff capacity, so “we are not requesting additional staff positions this year.” She outlined priorities for continued investment in programming, technology, collections and operational contingencies.
The presentation included usage estimates: Alexander reported patron visits have increased by about 12%, circulation (print and digital) by about 5.7%, and library card registrations by about 9%, noting those figures are estimates until the fiscal year ends. She also described planned initiatives for FY2027, including a new strategic plan, a technology lab at the Alliante small-business hub, and an outreach vehicle intended to expand digital access and programming.
Trustees asked how they could support outreach and summer learning efforts; Alexander suggested trustees share flyers with community groups or request electronic copies for distribution and noted patrons can register online via Beanstack. The board received the budget presentation for discussion only; no personnel additions were requested and no formal budget adoption occurred at the meeting.
