North Las Vegas council adopts $1.05 billion fiscal 2026–27 budget

The North Las Vegas City Council adopted the city's FY2026'27 budget at its May 20 meeting, approving $1,050,000,000 in total appropriations across all funds and a staffing plan that totals 2,053 budgeted positions.
Will Hardy, the city's chief financial officer and assistant city manager, said changes between the tentative and final budgets were limited. "There were really only two major changes from the tentative: some internal accounting between funds for vehicle purchases and two new positions for public works building maintenance," Hardy said. He told the council the ending general-fund balance is projected to be just under 40 percent, which he characterized as roughly four to five months of operating expenses.
The council asked about what constitutes a healthy reserve level. Hardy said there is no single standard but noted that other jurisdictions often target six months; he said a four- to six-month reserve can be appropriate if expenses and revenues remain aligned. After brief discussion the council opened and closed the public hearing on the budget (no public speakers or written comments were submitted) and the council adopted the budget by motion.
The appropriation figure presented at the meeting totaled $1,050,000,000 across all funds. Hardy also said the final document included small fund transfers to consolidate vehicle purchases into the centralized vehicle fund and the addition of two building-maintenance positions in public works to support operations as the city grows.
The city clerk recorded the motion and the mayor announced that the motion passed. The adopted budget will guide fiscal-year spending beginning with the 2026'27 fiscal year.
