More than 500 residents urge the board to prioritize affordability and financial transparency

A group of residents (represented at the meeting by Dipdisha) told the board they had organized more than 500 Hillsborough residents focused on preserving educational quality while addressing affordability pressures from rising property taxes. "Over the past 4 years, many homeowners have seen their property taxes increase by more than 35%," the speaker said, and asked the board to make long-term affordability a guiding principle in budget planning.
Throughout the meeting several other residents reiterated those concerns and urged concrete steps: publish clear five- to ten-year financial planning, review administrative staffing and consulting contracts, pursue shared services and additional grants, and improve the readability of budget materials for ordinary taxpayers. "Financial stewardship means more than balancing a budget, it means ensuring every taxpayer dollar is managed wisely, transparently and in a way that maximizes educational value," one commenter said. Residents asked the board to report prior efficiency reviews or commit to new reviews if none exist.
