Mr. Eckert told the board that S&P Global upgraded the Hillsborough Township Public School District from AA-minus to AA, calling it a "rare and significant credit rating upgrade." He said the rating reflects several years of budget surpluses and strong audit results, and explained the practical effect: "the rating allows the district to borrow money for buildings and technology improvements at lower interest rates," saving taxpayer dollars.
Board members and many public commenters later returned repeatedly to concerns about property-tax increases and fiscal transparency. Public commenters said that while they value educational quality, they want a clear multi-year plan to manage rising district costs and to show how administrative expenses are being controlled and audited. One resident urged the board to publish a long-term financial plan and to pursue shared services and grants to relieve local tax pressure.
