New Sibley superintendent and elementary principal introduced; school turnover delayed to fall, council told

The council welcomed Sibley's new superintendent, who identified himself as Eric Martinez, and a new elementary principal who introduced himself as Ian. Both said they were looking forward to meeting the community and participating in local events such as Heritage Days.

Chair provided a brief school update reporting that assistant city attorney Leo Janssen had indicated the matter (related to property turnover and associated state coordination) had been pushed to the fall. "It's kind of been pushed out till fall," the Chair said, adding that he hopes the delay means the parties are working with the state and that he wants the property auctioned or transferred as soon as practicable to avoid continued city heating costs. Council asked staff to follow up with the city attorney and report back when there is clarification.

The introductions were cordial; the district representatives encouraged community engagement and attendance at upcoming events.
