School Committee ratifies tentative HEA agreement with 9% COLA over three years

The Harvard School Committee voted 5-0 on June 8 to ratify a tentative Memorandum of Agreement with the Harvard Education Association that negotiators described as a three-year package including a 9% cost-of-living adjustment phased across the contract term and 10 days of paid parental leave. Committee Chair Abigail Besse thanked the negotiations teams for a “collegial and productive” process; Superintendent Dr. Linda Dwight also acknowledged the collaborative work that led to the MOA.
The MOA, as described by committee members at the meeting, also includes flexible workdays for teachers before and after school and a provision allowing teachers to bring their own children to district facilities. A district representative told the committee the agreement will eliminate the district’s TSA 403(b) match beginning in year one of the next contract cycle. Amy Morton moved to approve the MOA and Brian Killeen seconded; the motion passed on a roll call vote of 5-0. The committee did not approve implementation details at the meeting; members said those operational questions would be addressed during implementation planning.
