The commission approved SUP-15-2026 allowing Somerset Academy Aliante to install a freestanding sign with an electronic graphics display located roughly 70 feet from adjacent residential zoning, where the code normally requires 200 feet separation. Staff said the sign meets height, size and design standards and that an existing utility vault and a 6-to-8-foot wall partially block the sign face from nearby residences. Two opposition comment cards were on record; commissioners acknowledged nearby residents but concluded conditions would mitigate impacts.
The applicant (Kip Barton) accepted staff conditions and the commission approved the special-use permit with the recommended conditions.
