Henry County commissioners on July 7 approved a resolution allocating $120,584.60 in opioid settlement funds to four county departments for prevention, treatment, harm reduction and training.
Monique (S4), who presented the county's opioid remediation update, told the board that Henry County has participated in state settlement distributions since a 2021 memorandum and that at least 70% of settlement funds must be reserved for future remediation-use activities. She summarized FY24 allocations of $621,500.88 and presented department-level awards.
The July 7 resolution itemized four departmental requests totaling $120,584.60: Police (10 AEDs, $29,000), Risk Management (AEDs and supplies for public buildings, $54,025.60), Sheriff's Office (training, $3,190) and Parks & Recreation (prevention programming, $34,369). Monique also told the board the county is scheduled to receive about $6,280,000 from 11 active settlements to date and that funds will continue to arrive periodically.
Amanda Reeves (S19) and Accountability Courts representatives described the mobile health unit and program impacts; staff said the mobile unit should soon deploy and estimated the unit could reach several hundred residents per deployment cycle. Commissioners voted to approve the $120,584.60 allocation by motion and voice vote recorded in the meeting.
