Council honors long-serving city employees at July 27 meeting

Westminster City Council opened its July 27 meeting with presentations honoring multiple long-serving city employees.
Courtney Van Martyr, recognized for two decades with the Westminster Fire Department, accepted a certificate and pin and said she was “pretty jazzed about that,” thanking colleagues and family. Parks, Recreation and Libraries staff member Kate Skarbek — introduced by Councilors as a 35-year employee who led the city’s homeless navigator work and rehoused 73 households after the 2018 Westbury fire — received a plaque. Kim McDaniel was recognized for roughly 30 years of service in human resources and retirement administration. Council members also applauded Chrissy for 45 years of service working across parks and recreation programs.
Councilors noted the recipients’ contributions to firefighter wellness, shelter and navigator programs, finance and retirement plan administration, and long-standing institutional knowledge. The council said staff would follow up with attendees who requested additional information and thanked family and coworkers who joined the honorees.
The meeting then proceeded to regular agenda business, including an executive session to discuss negotiations about the Butterfly Pavilion.
