Public health director outlines new vaccine partnership, radon and PFAS testing plans

Public health director Lisa Walter (S8) told the board the department signed an arrangement with a company called Vaxphere that will supply vaccines, needles and some supplies at no initial cost while allowing the department to collect administration revenue. "They will pay for our vaccine... they give us some supplies," S8 said, describing expanded clinic offerings for adults and children regardless of insurance.
S8 also described radon testing initiatives, including free radon kits and a radon measurement specialist training for staff, and said the department applied to join the Iowa Cancer Consortium to access educational resources and potential funding. Environmental health specialist Derek Duckerberg (S7) walked board members through on‑site review procedures for confinement permits and said the department was coordinating with the DNR. S8 added that the state contacted county staff about offering PFAS water testing and that the county would consider participating; she said the testing program would be administered through the county with an administrative fee paid to the department.
