Overland Park fire annual report: training center work, CALEA review and 26,000 calls in 2025

The Overland Park Fire Department presented its annual report to the Public Safety Committee, highlighting operational tempo, training and accreditation work. Chief Long announced the department will host an open house at the training center (12401 Pit Lock) and said the department responded to over 26,000 calls for service in 2025, averaging about 72 calls per day. "This weekend, we will host our firefighters' new open house," Chief Long said during the presentation.
Officials told the committee the department continues to modernize training and standards: earthwork at the new training center is near completion and the building pad work is scheduled to begin, with construction expected to finish in summer 2027. The department passed an on-site CALEA assessment and will present to the CALEA board in July as part of reaccreditation steps. Staff also flagged partnerships and event planning for the World Cup and the Maccabi Games, which are expected to bring hundreds of youth to the region.
