Commission to include alternate routes on plan; final thoroughfare designations tied to map choices

Commissioners pressed staff about whether both North–South alternates would be submitted or whether the commission should select a single option for City Council. Commissioner questions reflected a desire to keep options available for feasibility analysis: "If we can get both of them, that's great, because then that splits the traffic," City Engineer Vincenzo Carraza said.
Carraza explained the practical effect of that approach on major thoroughfare designations: if both alternates are retained in the final package, connecting streets such as Sienna River Parkway and Steepbank Trace would be designated major thoroughfares; if a segment like the New Point connection is removed, related designations would not be applied. Staff intends to filter the map based on commissioner and council direction, then finalize designations when the commission passes the package for council consideration.
