Daniel Sezzie, a Grand Prairie police chief serving as an assessor for the Texas Police Chiefs Association, presented a certificate recognizing the Midlothian Police Department’s accreditation and explained the program’s scope.
"There are 173 standards that you have to achieve in order to get this accreditation," Sezzie said, and he added that only 229 departments in Texas had achieved accreditation to date. He described the accreditation as a continuing process — annual audits and a four-year reassessment cycle — rather than a one-time award.
Chief Gautam Smith accepted the certificate on behalf of the department and thanked staff and the command team for their work preparing the department for the assessment. Sezzie thanked assessors and noted the program includes policy review, interviews and on-site checks of daily operations.
Council members congratulated Chief Smith and Commander Tim Hicks for leading the internal effort; the mayor closed the recognition and the council proceeded to other business.
