A resident presented a concept for what she called the “Garden Of Eden,” a multi-acre formal garden and park on town-owned land near Route 100. The speaker described a trellised entrance, a gazebo that could be rented for weddings or events, blueberry bushes, a skating rink and community gardens, saying the project could be funded entirely by grants and private fundraising so it would not cost taxpayers.
Board members discussed practical constraints: sight distance on the nearby dip in the road, parking capacity, water and septic availability, event-related restroom needs, and whether the land’s current industrial designation or historic uses would require a vote of the electorate. The resident proposed beginning outreach and forming a citizens’ committee to explore grants and management; the board suggested consulting neighboring towns with successful models and considering a nonbinding town-meeting article to gauge voter interest before committing town resources.
