Midlothian honors longtime community leader Dr. Rick Davis with proclamation and street naming plan

Mayor Justin Kaufmann opened the June 9 Midlothian City Council meeting by presenting a proclamation honoring Dr. Rick Davis for nearly 40 years of community and ministerial service. The proclamation cited Dr. Davis’s educational background and roles, including service as lead pastor of First Baptist Midlothian from 1988 to 2001 and as Midlothian police chaplain.
Councilmembers took turns sharing personal recollections. Dr. Sheffield said of Dr. Davis: “He was not only my pastor, but also my predecessor,” and called him “a friend for decades.” Other councilmembers recalled being mentored by Dr. Davis and praised his steady counsel and involvement in youth sports, school programs and local boards.
Mayor Kaufmann read biographical highlights in the proclamation and announced the council had been told that a future developer intends to name an as-yet-unnamed roadway near the hospital and football stadium “Dr. Rick Davis Way.” The mayor also presented Dr. Davis with a ceremonial challenge coin and invited the council and the honoree’s family forward for a photo.
The council closed the ceremonial portion by asking Dr. Davis to lead an invocation before proceeding with the evening’s business.
