The Board of Supervisors approved a $150,000 appropriation from the Colonial Downs Reserve to fund architectural and engineering services for initial development of McKimmy Woods as a neighborhood park.
Jason Baldwin, Parks and Recreation Director, told the board the item responds to community interest in a neighborhood park and summarized desired amenities including a paved walking path, playground, multiuse ball field, shelter and restrooms. "The motion before you is to appropriate $150,000 from the Colonial Downs Reserve for future capital project funds to proceed with the architectural and engineer services for the initial development of McKimmy Woods as a neighborhood park," Baldwin said.
Board members discussed timing of public input, topography and usable acreage constraints (staff estimated roughly 30 usable acres on the front portion of the property) and procurement options including cooperative contracts through Plan RVA. Ms. Stewart moved the appropriation and the board adopted the motion by roll-call vote. Staff said they will return with a timeline and procurement recommendations and suggested holding public input sessions facilitated by Plan RVA in the fall.
