The auditor's presentation at the Jan. 6 meeting summarized the district's 2024—25 financial results and offered one formal recommendation to improve controls over student activity deposits.
Heidi, the audit presenter, told the board the general fund had an overall excess revenue of about $223,000 and actual expenditures of roughly $13.34 million; the year-end fund balance was reported just under $3.49 million. The auditor said capital reserve stood near $1.365 million and flagged long-term liabilities, including serial bonds and a net pension liability. "Excess revenue was a little under $223,000," she said while walking members through the three-page financial handout.
The audit included one formal recommendation related to student activities: the auditor noted that deposits were not being turned in timely and advised that activity receipts be deposited ideally twice a week to better safeguard funds. The auditor also raised minor procedural comments (signature receipts on purchase orders and confirming order dates) and highlighted upcoming Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) changes that will affect reporting disclosures.
Board members asked questions about how much of the year-end fund balance is restricted for reserves versus unassigned and discussed how much excess surplus the board is using in the 2026 budget. The auditor advised careful planning to ensure any surplus used is regenerable in subsequent years.
