Board adds Animal Control Advisory Board to committee list and directs director to attend
Summary
Supervisors voted to add the Lake County Animal Control Advisory Board to the official committee assignments, to appoint two supervisors as advisers, and to direct the animal control director (or designee) to attend advisory-board meetings for information and coordination.
The board considered Item 7.2, a proposal to codify supervisor involvement with the Lake County Animal Control Advisory Board. Chair Rasmussen explained that supervisors had informally attended advisory-board meetings and that formalizing an advisory role would not make supervisors voting members but would help the advisory board in preparing its reports.
Supervisor Sabatier said she and Supervisor Owen found attending helpful and suggested the animal control director should attend meetings or provide a designee to supply operational information. "It has been beneficial to that committee to have supervisors there, not to be actually assigned to the committee as voting members, but just be there to assist them," the chair said. The board approved each part of the proposal in separate votes (adding the advisory board to the committee assignments, appointing two supervisors as advisers, and directing the director to attend by designee), each motion carrying 5-0.
Supervisor Sabatier also suggested considering rotating seats or additional outside agency representation in future bylaw changes to ensure coordination among local animal-control agencies; the board said it would refer that suggestion to the advisory board for discussion.
