The Community Development Block Grant Advisory Board presented funding recommendations for program year FY26/27 and the citys carryover funds at the June 16 meeting. Jennifer, representing the advisory board, said the city was awarded federal CDBG funds and proposed an allocation that included Project HOME ($115,000), the McKinney Foundation ($250,000 toward preservation/rehabilitation of a historic library/African American cultural center), Rebuilding Together (critical home repair/housing rehabilitation, $115,000), and CDBG administration (approximately $106,394). Additional carryover funds totaling about $201,548.98 were proposed for local initiatives including River Street Education.
During public comment, Barb Rudolph questioned whether the McKinney Foundations $250,000 would be sufficient for a multi-million-dollar preservation project; a speaker associated with the McKinney Foundation responded that the funds would preserve the building and make the 1958 addition watertight ahead of larger work. Councilmember Jones moved to reallocate $115,000 from Rebuilding Together to River Street Education for economic development/microenterprise and to direct carryover homelessness-related funds to the Department of Social Services; the motion passed after roll call.
