Council approves pay-matrix amendment giving firefighters a 3% overall increase

The City Council voted unanimously to amend the civil service implementation ordinance to adopt a revised step pay matrix and base salaries for sworn fire personnel in line with the FY 2026 budget. Interim Civil Service Director Cynthia Ford told the council the change reflects the budgeted increases and that the salary adjustments would take effect May 17.
"This is an amendment ordinance to adopt the revised step pay matrix and revised base salaries to reflect the 3% overall increase and a 2.5% step increase. This will be effective, for the employee salary increases on May 17," Cynthia Ford said. Council members asked clarifying questions about why the matrix was not included directly in the budget ordinance; City Manager Angel Jones explained it should have been incorporated into the budget and staff will include it in future budget documents. A motion by Council Member Emery, seconded by Council Member Riley, was recorded and the City Secretary announced the motion carried unanimously.
