County engineer recommends accepting contractor bond in lieu of 5% retainage for Dike Road project
Summary
County engineer asked the board to accept a contractor bond in place of the usual 5% retainage for the Dike Road reconstruction project so the contractor (North Cascade Excavating) can post a bond that the county will hold until releases clear.

Susan Eugenis, the county engineer, told commissioners that for public-works contracts without federal funding the county typically withholds 5% retainage to cover liens, taxes and contractual obligations. She said the county allows contractors to instead obtain a bond equal to the retainage amount, and North Cascade Excavating has requested that approach for the Dike Road reconstruction project.
Eugenis said the bond would be held until all releases and closeout documentation are complete so the county retains protection against liens and other claims. Commissioners did not take action at this meeting; the item is on the consent agenda for the next meeting.
