Holly Area Schools reports above-average M-STEP results, outlines phonics and MTSS expansions

Superintendent Roper and Executive Director Szczechowicz introduced the Elementary Leadership Team, which presented Spring 2025 M-STEP results showing elementary students performed above state and Genesee County averages in multiple grade levels and subject areas, with particular strengths in mathematics and science.
District Data Coordinator Michael Beattie and principals Aimee Schwartz, Carrie Keech and Jake Haynes described specific instructional changes the district will pursue to sustain gains and address remaining Tier 1 instruction gaps, including districtwide implementation of the 95% Core Phonics Program, continued use of Bridges mathematics materials, LETRS-aligned explicit phonics instruction and expanded MTSS interventions. The presenters also cited building-level initiatives such as LEAD assemblies, Leader in Me Lighthouse Teams, robotics teams and career-readiness activities.
Board members praised staff for work on assessment and instruction. The presentation referenced Spring 2025 M-STEP data and emphasized additional professional development to support teachers in the identified areas of need. No formal vote was required; the update was provided for board review and discussion.
