Overland Park says short-term rentals must carry existing rental license; $120 fee for two years

In response to council questions about short-term rentals during KC2026 activities, staff said the city will apply its existing rental-licensing structure to short-term rental units. "Those would be allowed under the rental our current existing rental licensing program," Kate said. "So that is a $120 license fee. It is good for 2 years, and this is required for any rental property, in the city, including short term rentals."
Staff emphasized operators must hold the required license and follow the normal application process; the licensing structure is the same program the city uses for all rental properties, staff said. Council did not take any regulatory action at the meeting; this was a clarification of existing policy.
