Public works director Matt Beets said much of the curb work will take place in the Cedar Springs area and that the city will schedule a preconstruction meeting if the council approved the award.
Councilmembers asked about contractor experience; Beets acknowledged New Beginning is a relatively new contractor with limited municipal experience but said the bid and references warranted proceeding. Councilmember Gurley asked whether the bid reflected the contractor's relative inexperience; Beets said he thought the bid was acceptable and that the city might see different pricing in future years.
Beets said the city hopes to start the concrete work within about 60 days, and that concrete work must be completed before some resurfacing tasks. Council approved the motion to award and the clerk recorded the vote.
