Rockwall County Commissioners voted unanimously May 26 to appoint Steve Gutierrez as the county’s fire marshal for a two‑year term. Commissioner Stacy moved to appoint Gutierrez to a term beginning May 19, 2026 and concluding May 1, 2028, authorizing a $5,000 bond and an annual salary of $125,000; the court amended the motion to specify payment from county fund 51 before approving it 5–0.
Commissioner Stacy read the motion into the record, including the term dates, bond and salary figures. "I would like to make a motion approving the term of fire marshal and appointing Steve Gutierrez to a term that starts 05/19/2026 and goes to 05/01/2028, authorizing a bond amount of $5,000 and an annual pay of $125,000," Stacy said. After a clarification from county staff about the correct fund, the amended motion specified fund 51 as the salary source and passed unanimously.
The county clarified no budget amendment was necessary because funding will come from the identified fund; staff will carry out onboarding and standard administrative steps for the new officeholder.
