Officials press for faster progress on State Highway 205 after letting dates pushed
Summary
County and city leaders pressed TxDOT and regional partners about a large gap between a 'ready-to-let' date (Jan 2027) and TxDOT's construction 'let' date (Sep 2028) for State Highway 205, and discussed funding and utility relocation delays.

Elected officials and TxDOT staff discussed a substantial schedule gap on the State Highway 205 middle-portion project, which county staff show as "ready to let" in January 2027 while TxDOT’s published construction funding would put the letting in September 2028.
TxDOT staff explained the later date reflects when construction funding is identified in its 10-year Unified Transportation Program and said projects can be moved up if other projects fall out or come in under budget. Commissioner Oren Lichty expressed frustration at the pace: "Everybody in this room knows how bad 205 is. And as in Precinct 3, people are just freaking out down there, justifiably so," he said, urging continued pressure on the RTC and TxDOT to move the project earlier if possible.
Staff said utility relocations and prior utility hold-ups delayed earlier readiness but that some utility issues have been resolved; they will continue to press for schedule movement through routine coordination with TxDOT and RTC representatives.
