Discussion clarified that the obligation to document acknowledgment applies to transplant programs that accepted an organ from a donor where a pause occurred rather than to every center that received an offer. "Ultimately, we would only have to document acknowledgment from those centers that accepted an organ," PJ Garrity said, noting notification at the time of offers could be used to inform centers about a prior pause and its resolution.
Board members discussed how acknowledgments would be captured in practice (verbal confirmation documented in the OPO record, email replies, or structured fields in the donor data system) and whether the requirement could be operationalized through donor-matching system flags to standardize notification across offers.
