Planning Commission approves several special-use permit renewals and applications; communications site and multiple animal-care uses granted
Summary
On April 13 the commission approved a set of special-use permits — including renewals for a utility facility, a towing-storage lot, kennel renewals, an AT&T communications site expansion, and a Camp Bow Wow dog-care permit — mostly for 10‑year renewals except where notice required shorter terms; all votes were unanimous.

The Planning Commission approved multiple special-use permit requests and renewals on April 13, 2026, covering utilities, animal-care uses, a communications site and other commercial operations.
Staff recommended and the commission approved a 10‑year renewal for an existing fenced gas utility facility at 93rd and Neiman (SUP 2026-2), a 10‑year renewal for Puppies Playpen boarding kennel (SUP 2026-3), a 10‑year renewal for a tow lot at 8751 Lenexa Drive (SUP 2026-4), and a 10‑year renewal for a K9 Resorts doggy daycare and overnight boarding (SUP 2026-5). All four permits were approved 9–0.
The commission also approved a renewal and small site expansion for an AT&T colocated communications base station at 9521 W. 88th Street (SUP 2026-6) with an alternative screening-material waiver; the applicant and staff agreed to stipulations A and C and the commission approved the renewal 9–0 after removing a final-development-plan stipulation at the applicant's request.
Camp Bow Wow (SUP 2026-7), a proposed 20,000 sq. ft. doggy daycare and boarding facility at 6 S. Metcalf Ave., drew neighborhood comments about parking, safety and stormwater. Staff described an on-site pet-waste treatment and sand-trap filtration system and said traffic memo analysis used animal hospital proxies for vehicle estimates; because public notice advertised a 3‑year term, the applicant accepted a 3‑year permit and the commission approved SUP 2026-7 for three years with stipulations A–J (9–0).
