Council unappoints Lake City Law; attempt to appoint Vernon & Weeks fails

The Harrison City Council voted to unappoint Lake City Law as the city attorney at its Jan. 8, 2025 meeting. Josephine Prophet moved to unappoint Lake City Law and Will Butler seconded; the roll-call vote recorded four Ayes and two Nays and the unappointment carried.
The council then considered appointing Vernon & Weeks as the next city attorney. Will Butler moved to appoint Vernon & Weeks, but the motion failed on a roll call that recorded two Ayes (Debbie Lockhart and Josephine Prophet) and four Nays (Charlie Shutt, John Gray, Joe Cornell, and Will Butler). Following the failed appointment, Mayor Wanda Irish tasked the Administration Committee with drafting a newspaper advertisement for a city attorney position and reviewing Idaho and city codes governing the advertisement's publication.
