During the public-comment portions of the May 11 meeting several speakers urged the council to pursue unity and to scrutinize a package of charter amendments soon to be considered. Cliffman Nonsa told the council the Charter Review Commission "is gonna be putting forward, over a dozen amendments" and asked members to "please review them" and attend meetings because "this is going to impact the city for at least the next 5 years."
Other commenters repeated themes of unity and prayerful support. Liza Badanza said, "I'm gonna be praying for y'all" and urged members not to let bitterness build. Tony Diaz, who identified himself as an author, praised the council's growth and singled out commitment to education and history. Monica Riley, a council member from neighboring Missouri City, congratulated the newly elected members and urged keeping personal feelings out of dais deliberations.
