Residents press council on sidewalks, animal rules and apartment‑adjacent nuisances

Multiple residents used the public‑comment period to raise disparate neighborhood issues ranging from the need for sidewalks to support safe walking to requests that the council consider changes to small‑poultry (ducks) rules and to address nuisance behavior near Pioneer Village Apartments.

Jason Price (2118 Blackston Mill Road) asked specifically for sidewalks on Blackston Mill Road and more police enforcement at a high‑speed stretch near Gingerwood, saying people drive "well over 50, 60 miles an hour" and children and elderly pedestrians are at risk. On a separate topic, Steve Blake (2710 Hollywood Boulevard) and Pat Smith, neighbors of a resident requesting permission for ducks, asked the council to treat ducks like chickens under the current ordinance, noting care and lack of nuisance at their properties. Betty Herrick recounted repeated incidents tied to nearby apartment activity — late‑night dumpster operations, litter, a vehicle driving through a fence and a near miss with her child — and said larger developments would intensify an already difficult situation for those living adjacent to the complex.

Council members acknowledged the comments and said related ordinances will be on a future agenda for discussion, and staff noted a planned ordinance review at the next council meeting. Requests for sidewalks were recorded with addresses for follow up by appropriate departments.
