Planning staff presented preliminary and final plats allowing the transfer of a 20-acre parcel that contains a containment pond and associated buildings tied to the Golden Reward mining operation. Staff said the transfer is allowed for the limited purpose of transferring the containment pond area and associated structures while the remainder of the mining property remains subject to the state's mine permit and reclamation bond. "So they went ahead and did a 20 acres around that containment pond with the buildings... This plat is for transfer purposes only," Amber said while explaining the special handling.
Board members and staff discussed state oversight and confirmed the reclamation bond remains in effect for the larger mining operation; the board approved preliminary and final plats and noted the state’s continued regulatory role for water and reclamation issues.
