County staff say weed-inspection program has become more proactive

Planning staff reviewed the county’s weed-control work, explaining inspection cycles, warning letters, voluntary compliance efforts, and potential enforcement actions for properties that do not respond to guidance. Amber identified the county staff responsible for inspections and outreach: "Ryan Palmer and Dave Peck work for Lawrence County in basic species management," she said, adding that the program has increased proactive engagement and that staff try to work cooperatively with property owners before pursuing enforcement.

Board members who recalled prior years said enforcement had been limited previously but improved in the last year, with staff noting that warnings are typically followed by follow-up and only some cases proceed to formal enforcement. The board thanked staff and encouraged continued outreach to subdivisions and absentee landowners.
