Superintendent details summer hires, says district is 'almost 100% staffed'

Superintendent Mark Branko told the Rockport School Committee on Aug. 20 that the district has had substantial staffing movement over the summer, including multiple new hires and several resignations. "We have had some movement and welcomed some new staff members and say goodbye to some dedicated staff members," Branko said as he listed hires and departures.
Branko named specific hires and separations: Molly Swanson was hired as the district ESL teacher; Leanne Demeo Mastone was hired as a bus driver after Margaret Hale resigned; Barry Norman, Catherine Cook, Chad Johnson and Emma Rowe were hired as permanent substitutes; Jeff Yacobauskas was added as a maintenance employee; and Nicholas Zarraga was hired as a paraprofessional. Several paraprofessionals and the school psychologist Bridget O'Connell resigned, and Kathleen Hill was recalled to a paraprofessional role. "I believe we're almost a 100% staffed," Branko said, adding he will finish the staffing report at the committee's next meeting.
The committee did not take formal action on staffing at the meeting. Members thanked administrators for summer hiring work; Chair Amy Oakes said the committee appreciated the work that continued through the summer and looked forward to seeing staff in the schools on opening day.
