Neighbors urge practice-only use, proper restrooms and maintenance at Jobson Park

During the public-comment period residents expressed conditional support for improvements at Jobson Park while urging that the facility remain primarily a practice venue, not a tournament complex.

Jerry Johnson, president of the Homestead HOA, said the park has been neglected and that the town should commit sufficient staff and funding for ongoing maintenance if it proceeds with upgrades; he also urged the town to honor prior understandings that the park was for practice use and to plan for permanent restroom facilities. Johnson said, "The first time a tournament is planned and held in this park, all hell is gonna break loose, and I'll lead the charge."

Mary ****, a nearby resident, echoed concerns about tournaments and said pavilions of the proposed size would attract people from outside the neighborhood to party late at night. Scott Clary, who identified himself as having spoken previously in favor of synthetic turf, said he favors turfed infields and urged using change orders or piggyback contracts to avoid project delays.

Residents asked for evergreen plantings and other sound/light mitigation adjacent to Tavener and Mitchell streets and requested clear enforcement language if the town intends to prohibit tournaments. Staff confirmed that permanent restrooms are in the plan and that scheduling and user-group rules would be worked out with sports user groups.
