The Town of Columbia reconvened its Annual Budget Meeting on June 2, 2026, at Yeomans Hall for discussion after a May 21 referendum rejected the proposed 2026–27 budget. First Selectman Steven M. Everett opened the meeting at 7:00 p.m. and turned proceedings over to Moderator Millie Ramsey, who explained that the session was for discussion only and that no vote would be taken.
Town Administrator Mark Walter reviewed exit-poll results from the May 21 referendum and concluded that the majority of voters selected "Too High" across all three ballot questions, a finding he said the public comments reinforced. The moderator read the ballot questions and Statute 7.6 about voter eligibility and explained that the reconvened meeting would follow Robert’s Rules. Officials set a new referendum for Tuesday, June 9, 2026, in Yeomans Hall from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.; absentee ballots will be available starting June 3 at the Town Clerk’s office either in person or by designee.
