Sheriff defends Axon TASER lease and explains camera warranty reductions

Sheriff Garrett described the county’s multi-year contracts for both an Axon (TASER) five-year lease and a Motorola camera capital lease. Garrett said the TASER lease includes device replacement, unlimited training cartridges and cloud evidence downloads; the current final payment under the TASER agreement is $54,551 and the five-year arrangement provides approximately $12,000 per year in savings under the vendor discount.
On the camera lease, Garrett said the county is in year two of a five-year Motorola agreement: year one payments were $174,000 and years two through five are about $238,000 per year. He also said the county anticipates reduced maintenance agreement costs going forward as some Motorola and Vigilant fees phase out and warranties on older body-worn cameras expire; older camera units will be repurposed for jail use where appropriate.
