Santa Rosa County proposes $255.2 million tentative FY27 budget; millage rates unchanged

Santa Rosa County staff presented the tentative FY2027 budget at a July 9 workshop, reporting a total across all funds of $255,168,791 and an overall year-over-year reduction of about $10.3 million, or roughly 4 percent. Sabrina, the staff presenter, said: "By law, we are supposed to present you a balanced budget," and that staff used a combination of revenue adjustments and expenditure reductions to reach balance.
Sabrina highlighted several balancing moves: shifting roughly $700,000 of tax-collection costs to an MSTU, trimming BOCC travel to $45,000, reducing the planned RISE intern cohort from 25 to 15 (about a $25,000 savings), and moving $1,200,000 from the capital fund back to the general fund. She said those changes, along with an increase in expected ad valorem revenue and sheriff revenues, helped close the gap. The board took no vote at the workshop; the chair said the session was informational and adjourned after discussion.
