Board approves roughly $1.9 million in special education contracts for 2025–26

At the July 16 Lammersville Joint Unified School District meeting, the board approved a series of contracts covering a range of special education services for the 2025–26 school year, totaling approximately $1.89 million.
Superintendent staff summarized items b through h as necessary to provide services that are hard to staff in-district. "It's hard to find people," the superintendent said. "These outside agencies can often pay better, so it's easier to go to them. Sometimes you have a service that you only need for a temporary period of time, so having an internal candidate doesn't make sense." The board approved an occupational therapy contract with Pioneer Healthcare Services LLC for $242,040; contracts for registered behavior technicians totaling $442,290; speech-language pathologist contracts totaling $650,016; a speech-language assistant contract for $120,048; ASL interpreter contracts for $255,050; a Summa Academy agreement for $91,522.25; and a WellDone Inc. contract for a physical therapist for $93,408.
Trustees asked whether contracting vs hiring was strategic; staff answered that some roles are temporary or specialized and contractors can be more readily available and sometimes less costly when benefits and variable demand are considered. All motions carried with recorded outcomes of 4 ayes, no nos, and 1 absent (Veneta Daniel).
