Commissioners discuss how to use potential $500,000 Brownfield grant

Commissioner Moss informed colleagues that Ottawa County had been notified it may receive a $500,000 Brownfield grant intended to address contaminated properties and other redevelopment projects. He asked the candidate and staff how such funds and Brownfield TIFs could be used for county economic development.
Tremblay said he could not speak specifically to the grant but described a standard approach: present several options and let the board decide priorities. "As being a budget item, I would immediately come back to the board and say, hey. Listen. What are the priorities? How are we going to best utilize the $500 in your estimation?" Tremblay said. He said staff subject matter experts would prepare options for the board to review.
Commissioners did not take immediate action on the grant during the meeting; they indicated they expected the administrator or staff to return with proposals and priorities if the award materializes.
